C-J Associates, Inc. is a consulting engineering firm owned by Clayton and Judith Canfield, with an excellent reputation in the analysis and design of residential and light commercial structures. Mr. Canfield has been performing these services for over thirty-five years in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho, including the last fifteen years in Washington state.
Current building code requirements are not only complex, but fairly restrictive of the design of residential and commercial structures, if an inexpensive structure is desired. Our goal is to meet code requirements, provide prudent engineering design, and simultaneously design a cost-effective structure that is safe and serviceable for the end-user.
There are numerous areas of the codes which allow the designer to reduce construction cost by performing additional or more complex calculations. Although this does add a small percentage to the design fee, we feel it more than pays for itself in reduced costs at the jobsite.
